I know that I am going to need some time to job hunt (my field is very competitive) and I would also like to do some volunteer work before I start my career. Problem is, if I am not a full-time student, my parents’ health insurance won’t cover me, and if I don’t or can’t find a job with benefits right away, I will be left uninsured. I’m 22 years old. I’m trying to figure out if I should buy a house or rent an apartment. I did move into an apartment with my friend at 19 years old for a little over a year and we spilt everything 50/50 besides groceries. He eventually had to move because he was going to school in another town, my parents didn’t mind me moving back since I help pay the bills, help around the house, and cook meals also. I’ve also been saving since I started my first full time job at 18 and currently have about $32k in the bank and $0 debt. Details: I make $40,000 annually, 2-3% raise annually. I plan to stay in the area for at least 5 years. Houses in the area are relatively cheap, I live in Nebraska and can get a decent 2-3 bedroom 1-2 bathroom house for $100,000. Four years work history at the same job. If I buy a house I plan to put at least 20% down payment and preferably a 15 year fixed rate. Credit score is 715. My employer matches 70% on the first 10% i contribute to my 401k so I have been contributing 10% to my 401k plus an additional $2,400 annually to my Roth IRA. After taxes and everything I make between $2,200 – $2,400 each month. If I limit my mortgage to 25% of my monthly income, I would be able to buy an $75,000-$80,000 house on a 15 year fixed mortgage, and the monthly amount would be close to $600 with homeowner insurance & property taxes. If I buy I will also need to buy washer/dryer, stove, fridge, microwave, couch, chairs, etc, etc, etc…. Maybe $2k-3k budget"

I was recently rear ended. The lady who hit me was not the owner of the car. The car is insured with Access General under the boyfriends name. (Probably other expenses too) How can I collect the total value of my car without having to buy it from them as scrap? (Why do they all the sudden own my car?) They say that it’s progressive policy to total the car, and they’d be liable if, God forbid, it was in another accident because of this accident. They will not pay me any other way. What should I do about this car insurance?
I have a car that is worth no more than $1500. I bought it off someone in my family and I should transfer ownership (as it is from a different state). thank you so much for your help. I just found that another settlement document that my insurance company sent me about 2 weeks ago. On that paper, they did not deduct the $3000 for storage fee. I bought a car last night and am picking it up today in Nova Scotia. I called around to a number of companies for insurance and got a quote that seemed reasonable. I went down today and signed the paperwork and was given the temporary insurance card and they faxed paperwork to the dealership and the dealership to them and it is all worked out. However I got a call back a few hours later from another broker quoting me a lot less. I had her verify with the company and they said yes. But I have already signed the other stuff. The one I have now is going to be monthly and the first payment should not come out till about the 15th and be the first and last payment for the month. if I switch and they have already taken the payment do I get the last month back? Can I pretty much switch at any time? Anyone know how that works? I’m a newbie at buying a vehicle an thought I had done my homework but apparently not.

I was in a minor car accident last month and i was the one at fault. I was backing out of a parking space and a lady with her son who was driving pulled up behind and was going pretty fast. I had a 1999 Buick Regal Supercharged and switched to a 2002 Ford Focus SE. This resulted in my insurance going from 750 to 1000$ for the year. FYI: this falls under New Mexico laws I drove a small 2 door honda civic and was on my way to school. I currently own a Jeep. That has been WONDERFUL!!! I love my JEEP but with rising gas prices & insurance its getting extremely difficult for me to afford. So the other day as I was pulling out of the parking lot my car hit this non moving car next to me. I was in a car wreck 2 years ago, from what I was told by the agent from my car insurance company the case was settled. I signed some forms saying I will pay $700.00 and I paid them the whole amount within 2 weeks. My agent said if there anything that came up about the case he would call me.
